| So it's been a year since I've posted and I barely know how to use Xanga anymore....I've spent 3rd year (the lost year!) in grad school bumming around, but I must have done something right because I got a fellowship to go do research in Ottawa and I'll be heading up pretty soon. I realize that this blog began as a restaurant review site, and I haven't said much since moving from Chicago, so here are a few things I have to say about my experiences that are a bit off the beaten path for Princeton students (apparently I'm less intense on the work, more intense on the food than other grad students): 1. Hunan (on Witherspoon past the cemetery) I like live here because I don't cook that often and the food is pretty good and really reasonably priced. This is my favorite restaurant at Princeton for the super friendly staff and it price to quality ratio. Ordering off the Malaysian menu is your best bet--I love the chili fish and the captain's noodles. 2. Chuck's (on Spring Street) This is the only greasy place in Princeton (okay, maybe there's George's Roasters and Ribs but I classify that as a rib place) that is just good hamburgers, fries, etc. When you go there remember to order your burgers deluxe--this means that they come with fries. Otherwise, fries will cost you like $3, instead of the supplemental $1.50 or so, and they have no qualms about charging you extra because you are a dumbass who can't read the menu. 3. Calico Grill (behind Cox's deli on Nassau) Awesome breakfast! I haven't been there for any other meal but their menu looks good. 4. Il Positano (on Scudder's Mill in Plainsboro) An overall good Italian experience, and it has parking! It's also next to AG's that has awesome Italian cookies, It's a Grind coffee house, Coldstone, and Sugar and Sunhine which is a cupcake bakery. I get mocked for liking this plaza in Plainsboro (mainly because my friends think I just like Plainsboro) 5. The Tiger Tail (on Rt. 206 in Montgomery) It's like Hamilton's (on N. Broadway in Chicago) and Durty Nellie's (next to the Palatine, IL train station) had a baby and it started charging twice as much for drinks because it went to Princeton. Overall, good ambiance with good bar bands and karaoke and free popcorn. 6. Sahara (on Rt. 206 in the Montgomery Plaza) Eh, where else are you going to get Middle Eastern food? 7. Mee Mah (next to the Tiger Tail) This is in a barn-like structure by Orpha's Cafe and it's a Chinese-Malaysian restaurant. The lobster was good (and only $14.95) and there's a ton of stuff on the menu with balachan. Thumbs up. 8. Tre Bar (Forrestal Village) As David and I were saying, this is decent tapas, but it costs about 30-50% more than it should. 9. Wonder Seafood (on Rt. 27 in Edison) Great Cantonese food, both for dinner and dim sum. My only complaint is that they have like 6 legal parking spots for a good-sized restaurant.

| So, I have a new hobby. Resurfacing wooden things...it's a lot of fun and the results are pretty cool. Here's what my dining room table looks like:
The backstory to this is that I bought the table and the chairs for $25 combined on TigerTrade (kind of Princeton's internal Craig's List). The person who sold it to me told me it was wobbly. I tightened the screws and it's rock solid. She also said that there were weird stains she couldn't get off. They were white paint and they sanded right off. Then I applied 3 coats of polyurethane-stain 2-in-1 and that is why the table looks as it does now. Unfortunately, I didn't have the foresight to take a before. My other hobby for the summer is cooking somewhat extravagantly. Here's the table in action at what can only be described as Pork-a-Palooza. Basically, we had pork and tofu noodles, pork broth with silken tofu, black fungus, and peas, sweet and sour pork, steamed egg with preserved vegetables and ground pork, prok and chive dumplings, Chinese broccoli with garlic, and fish with peppers and soy bean sauce. We also had lychee martinis, among others, cookies, a cherry pie, and some ice cream.
I was worried my acne was resurfacing for a while. Then I realized I must have just gotten splattered while deep frying something.
Anyhow, should I be alarmed that I've become so suburban? I get such a kick out of home repair and entertaining. Then again, the amount of time and energy I dedicate to this is probably why I'm single...

| So, the last three places I've lived are a tenement, a castle, and a trailer (they say it's former military housing). When I grow up I want to live in a normal house like a raised ranch or split level or something.

| My closet collapsed on me as I was sleeping last night under the weight of my clothes.
In my defense, it was one of those semi-disposible plastic closets.
I'm not going to buy a new one before I move in a month.
Still, I want to go shopping for more clothes. I think I satisfy the property of nonsatiation.

| Econometrics aside, I think that my prior comment was just projection. It's just being here...I think that because I'm kind of stressed about generals I'm projecting my feelings of academic inadequacy onto other feelings of inadequacy.
